Today's Look: All That Glitters Is Gold

The pleated midi skirt has made its way from my grandma's closet to mine.

The midi skirt hit its popularity peak in the 1940's, a decade of elegance and grace. Fashion soon gave in to the mini skirt and our beloved midi's were pushed aside. (More on the drama with the midis here) Pleats began its rise in ancient times (think pyramids here) as a marker of status and wealth considering the lengthy amount of time it took to make them. In 1993, pleats made its return to the runway in Issey Miyake's "Pleats Please" collection and highly distributed in the 90's. The modern metallic pleated midi skirt was released in the Gucci Resort 2015 collection and has has inspired the industry. Fast fashion retailers such as Zara, Topshop, and Forever 21 have since released new inspired pieces that have inspired my own closet.

Today's look was dominated by my new spring favorite, the pleated metallic midi skirt. This is going to be this season's staple piece in my closet. The movement of the pleats as I walked were gorgeous and entertained me all day. I paired it with a royal blue shaded top made of my favorite material, modal. (Seriously, get a modal piece. It's so soft and looks so posh.) I also paired it with a white denim jacket, black suede Chelsea booties, and a suede drawstring backpack. I love how I can pair this with a chiffon top or a graphic tee and change the whole look. WhoWhatWhere discusses more outfit ideas here.
