Merchandising Markdowns

The markdown area is a great place to sell through old product while inviting your customer to spend more in your store. Often this section becomes forgotten and neglected by employees, and eventually customers too, as more focal areas will obviously take priority above sale.

At my local store, I saw the neglect of our markdown area especially during sales and the potential it had to sell more of our old product. I requested time and support to work through the markdowns and rearrange the room to feature more non-apparel product that wasn’t selling. I was able to organize the jumbled mess of product as well as create featured moments of categorized non-apparel in focal areas.

These shifts gave me the opportunity to make some much needed changes to the sale room as well as use the leadership skills I had learned from my degree to direct the support staffI was given. The changes received really great feedback from district and store management and results were seen as stagnant product began selling. Because I shared my ideas, I was able to make a difference in my workplace and continue to improve on my merchandising skills.

I created a wall featuring handbags and baseball hats and placed bins and fixtures and categorized non-apparel product on the floor.

Because I had split the room, I made sure end my project making sure the focal front fixtures were presentable as well.
